The Optimist Club of Mount Horeb and Prairie Fire Children’s Theater had another successful theatrical experience aspiring actors and actresses with the recent presentation of “Cinderella” in the Mount Horeb High School Auditorium. A special thanks for the ongoing support of the participating students, their parents, the community, The Village Inn Motel, and Optimist Club members.

Erin Love is “Someone You Should Know.” Erin was chosen as the Optimist Club’s high school recipient of the “Someone You Should Know” award for outstanding community service for the month of February.

Erin is a senior at Mt. Horeb High School. She is the Lead Lighting Teahnician for school musicals and events and also part of the Drama Club set crew. She is member of DECA, part of the DECA Leadership Lab, and DECA competition. Erin is a band member, Marching Band rank leader, and plays with the Pep Band. Erin is also involved in Art Club. She received first place for photography in the Mount Horeb High School Art Show as well as chosen art student of the month. Erin was a Badger Girls State Delegate and Rotary Scholar for the Rotary Ethics Symposium. She was part of the Mount Horeb High School Varsity Swim Team as well as Junior Varsity Soccer player. She has also been a member of the Student Council.

Outside of school, Erin is active in community service. She is part of the Blackhawk Church Emergency Response Team, Building/Restoration. As part of the Middleton Outreach Blackhawk Church Mission group, Erin helped with the Mississippi Hurricane Relief. She also Volunteers in Several Agencies in the Madison Area with Madison Missions. Erin helps the Mount Horeb Gators by volunteering as a swim coach.

Erin was honored at the February 13th meeting of the Optimist Club. She received a certificate and $50.00. Her name will be engraved on a plaque at the Mt. Horeb High School. The Optimist Club of Mt. Horeb is proud to name Erin Love as “Someone You Should Know.”

The Mount Horeb Senior Awards Program was held on May 18th, 2011 at the high school auditorium and the Optimist Club presented scholarships to five outstanding seniors. Hannah Bartelt, Nicole Davis, Brandi Hefty, Julia Rollins, and Eric Schwierske. Congratulations to our scholarship winners and best of luck in college.

Optimists in the Summer Frolic Parade

Members of the Optimist and Junior Optimist Clubs get ready to march in the Mount Horeb Summer Frolic parade. It was 80 degrees and sunny. The parade route was down main street to celebrate Mount Horeb’s 150 anniversary. The Optimists shouted positive slogans and spread good cheer as well as tossing candy out to the hundreds and hundreds of kids along the parade route.

Optimist Cynthia Jefko gets caught “clowning around” just before the parade started.Anita Laabs and “Queen” Barb Morkri rode along in the car and waved to the crowd.
